News: PhotoComment Magazine goes to Print

After launching as the first online flip page photography magazine of its kind in South Africa in March 2009, PhotoComment will from the 1st December 2010 be available in print as a free publication through several photographic retailers and colleges.

“There is no doubt in my mind that some may consider this a step backwards” said PhotoComment’s founder, Tristan Hall. “The decision to move to print was not one we rushed into. There had been calls from several areas to consider PhotoComment going to print due to the nature of its content being image related as well as certain limits that still exist for many potential readers in broadband Internet connectivity.”

NMMU fashion exhibition “Fixated” at Epsac

The word ‘fixate’ is an obsessive focus, attachment and fastening to a person or image.  A NMMU fashion exhibition opening at the upper gallery of Epsac Community Art next week (3-15 December 2010), shatters an initial view of fashion as superficial and on the surface.  “The notion of humanness demands or expects something more.” suggests exhibition curator Maran Coates, “Fashion often attempts to be beyond real. The mixture of fashion in fabric form, in photography and film in this exhibition allows the viewer to return to human sensibility or real human encounter.”

News: LEICA V Lux 2 in South Africa

TudorTech, the South African Distributors for Leica, have announced the V Lux 2 is available in South Africa. This camera was released at Photokina and features a 24x optical zoom or rather a DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens. The effective range is 25-600mm. There is 14mp CMOS Sensor which also allows the camera to capture AVCHD Videos and frame rates of 11fps at the full 14mp resolution through to 60fps at 2.8mp resolution.
