It has been a busy week in technology and despite Photokina being next month, even the photographic industry has seen some exciting new changes. Some stories have been cool (like the ones below) and others have been a little sad, like Kodak announcing that it is looking to sell off their Personalized Imaging business which includes their photo kiosk machines and consumer film. There have been a couple of interesting news stories in the past two or three days. Its a public holiday here in South Africa, but that did not stop the announcement of two new cameras by Nikon 🙂 As if the world revolves around us here down south. The new Coolpix is the L610. A 16mp Backlit CMOS sporting machine with a 14x optical zoom. It is by far the curviest little Coolpix in the current range. It also offers the ability to shoot 360 and 180 degree panoramic images.
The other new camera announced is the new Nikon 1 J2, a reworked J1 that will launch at a lower price than the J1 did. It is said to have some more creative modes and a higher res screen on the back. Also released with this camera is a new lens in the range, an 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6. Possibly more exciting is the announcement of an underwater housing for the J1 and J2 which will go down to 4om.
We look forward to a chance to play with these new machines.
