August 2011 PhotoComment Magazine is Live

After a slight hiccup the August 2011 issue of the magazine is now live and while we don’t like to brag here, we do feel its the best issue of the magazine to date. The fantastic cover is an image by Student Portfolio photographer Jessica MacLeod. A Vega student who recently scooped top honours at the Andalusian Centre of Photography and  Al Tarab 4th PhotoAfrica Contest. Read on for a summary of what is inside or just jump straight into the magazine. Jessica’s portfolio is on Page 14.

Editor’s Comment

Armani’s opening remarks are inspired in part by his freezing experiences reviewing the Olympus Tough TG-810 recently. Some food for thought on what motivates us to press on. Check it out on Page 4.

From new Olympus PEN models to news about the recently announced Nikon Africa Trust and the Photo Stars project from CODP Help Portrait plus much more. We summarize in Scoop some of the key news over the last few weeks. Check out Page 6.

Professional Portfolio

Kyle Araujo is the Professional Portfolio in the August issue. A half South African and half Brazilian who grew up in Chile, find out what inspires Kyle on Page 8.

Reader Portfolio

A great contributor to our Photos For Hope gallery is Neill Soden, this months Reader Portfolio. Page 25.

Lomography Feature

We are pleased to introduce a new Lomography feature where in each issue we look at one of the unique Lomography cameras and compile a Lomo Wall with your images. Julian Hibbert is this issues Lomographer and wins the featured La Sardina camera. If you would like to have you Lomography published and win a Lomo camera submit your images. Check out the feature on Page 18.

Technique Features

In this issue Lisa Solonynko guides us through Scanography on Page 12 while Frank Krummacher from the College of Digital Photography guides us through Still Life Photography at home or in a studio on Page 20.

On Page 30 you will find our reviews on the Think Tank Retrospective 10, a battery powered and highly portable 400 watt studio light from Graham Robertson and end off with the Canon EOS 600D.

That is a very brief summary of what is in the August magazine. We would like to thank our advertisers that make it possible to bring PhotoComment to you.
