Photo Journalists in Libya

It is really tough to hear reports from the Guardian in the UK that award winning photographer and documentary videographer Tim Hetherington was killed in Misrata in Libya today. It is particularly hard when here in South Africa there is still no news on Anton Hammerl who has been missing for a few weeks now in the same country. Having worked with Anton’s father on and off over the last few years and having met Anton it feels more personal. In fact, Anton’s dad would often come with a news paper to show a pic from his son as proud as can be.

Having said all this, there are several activities happening to raise awareness of Anton’s situation and you can link up with the group on Facebook for more information.

Tomorrow (21 April 2011) there is a demonstration happening – with a number of photographers – at 12pm meeting corner Jan Smuts and William Nicol in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. Details can be found here.
