Full disclosure here, just as I was concluding my time working at Sony South Africa a few years back, Sony were preparing to announce their NEX range with the NEX-3 and NEX-5. It may be for that reason that I have always had a little soft spot for Sony’s NEX-5 range which ultimately was the cause of me dumping my DSLR two or so years ago.
As Sony announced the NEX-7 and NEX-6 though, the NEX-5 range lost it’s range topping status. While the new NEX-5T doesn’t bump it to the top again, it does have some refreshing updates, most notably the inclusion of NFC. The spec sheet includes:
- 16MP Exmor APS-C DH CMOS sensor
- ISO 100-25 600
- Hybrid Contast and Phase detect autofocus
- 1080p video at 50 and 25fps
- 3-inch 921k touch screen with 180 degree movement for self-portraits
- Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC for easy pairing
Word from Sony South Africa is that it will be on sale here in October. In fact, it will likely make it’s first appearance at our upcoming PhotoWalk for October in Cape Town. Details on that to follow.
