So does Nikon have the answer? Well if Nikon Rumours is to be believed, they may well do.
According to the article, Nikon is producing a retro styled, full-frame camera that will compete against Sony’s truly brilliant A7. However that turns out not to be, as the expected retail price is $3,000 body only. Almost twice that of the A7. What does give this rumour a bit of extra spice though is that it may come with the 16MP FF sensor out of the flagship D4. It’s even rumoured to have a similar name, the D4H. The camera would not be Mirrorless due to a pentaprism being specified, but thats hardly a terrible thing.
It has been labeled a “hybrid” camera which at this point has yet to have any decent clarification, but we may not have long to wait for that. Rumour has it that it will be announced in the first week of Novemeber. Stick around for details.
See below a list of rumoured specs:
- 16MP FF sensor
- ISO range: 100-12,800 (expandable:50-108,200)
- 5.5 fps (limited to 100 shots)
- 3.2 inch LCD
- packaged with special edition matching Nikkor 50mm f1.8G lens
- standard F mount lens
- no video capabilities
Nikon has just released a teaser add for this camera that further suggests the retro design, as you will hear. Yes, I said hear. If you are really sharp you will notice what looks like the rumoured 50mm f/1.8G lens, giving that some street cred.
